Pantone Colour of The Year: 2023

A new year, a new Colour of the Year! Pantone has been releasing a new colour of the year since 2000, to align colour with culture and predict upcoming design trends. This year’s colour? Viva Magenta.

There is a new pink in town and it’s a force to be reckoned with. While being intense enough to break from conformity, Viva Magenta is inviting, approachable and inclusive of all. Created to embrace nature in a time of technology Viva Magenta is inspired by one of the most precious natural dyes. Which also happens to be the brightness and strongest.

This colour is all about breaking free, being yourself and maybe even being a little rebellious, so using it in an interior application may not be the first thought that comes to mind with the bold hue. Let’s go through some ideas to get your home in on this year’s biggest trend.

Let’s Add Just a Little

A bold, feisty colour like Viva Magenta is the perfect colour to accent your space. Trying it on something that you are more likely to switch up in different seasons or just over time is the perfect way to let the Colour of the Year have its time to shine in your home while on-trend. Think about using it in art, pillows, bedding, decor pieces, and even flowers!

Psst… the Selena Gomez collaboration with Our Place is the perfect shade, guess she was on trend before we even knew it!

It’s a Commitment

Absolutely in love with this colour and want it in your home for a long time? Amazing! This is a bold colour, using it just right will make it the focal point. A piece of furniture upholstered in a lush colour will be the jewel in the room, pair it with some neutral or a complimentary jewel tone and you’ll be in love.

If you’re wanting to commit but maybe not a full furniture piece commitment, try it out on your walls! We are starting to see this colour pop up in different wallcoverings; geometrics to abstract to full floral. We recommend playing with wallpaper in a powder room, and it’s always nice to spice up a small space. If you are going full paint colour on the wall try it on an accent wall with complimentary walls to balance the room.

Finding complementary colours can be a daunting task for some. Lucky for us Pantone created their “Magentaverse” collection of colours as a starting point for what colours will pair perfectly with Viva Magenta. This collection of earthy, muted, neutrals will make sure that Viva Magenta is the star of the show.

The number one rule when experimenting with a joyous colour like Viva Magenta is to remember to have FUN with it! This is a playful, optimistic colour that’s not looking to take itself too seriously.
