Five Interior Design Trends To Look Out For In 2022

With the pandemic not quite being a part of history, but having lived with it for a while, this year’s trends seem to reflect the changes in our lifestyles we have all had to make. Focusing on elements in your home that bring warmth and comfort show to be important as we continue to spend most of our time indoors.

1 - earthy tones

While we saw this trend emerge in 2019, it is still holding strong. Both Benjamin Moore and Sherwin Williams selected a green tone as their colour of the year. People are also (still) experiencing cabin fever and want to bring the outdoors inside. While we still love a neutral grey, warmer tones such as browns and even pinks are emerging. These hues make spaces feel more comfortable and inviting, encouraging us to stay a while.

2 - traditional elements

Remember sitting on wicker or cane furniture at your childhood or grandparents’ home? Well, you may be sitting on it again soon, as it is making a comeback. Other elements you may see “blast from the past”: wainscoting, archways and pedestals.

3 - curved furniture

Another trend that is not brand new, but holding its own. Soft, organic shapes provoke a sense of comfort and security, which we are all seeking in these unfortunately, still uncertain times. If we can’t get a warm hug from relatives abroad, we might as well let our furniture do it. Which brings us to our next trend…

4 - texture

Creating visual interest with texture is not a new concept, but now it is being fully embraced. Don’t just think of a fabric sofa with a wood coffee table and a wool rug, but go further with a boucle bench, leather accent chair, velvet toss cushions. Whatever tickles your fancy and makes you want to curl up and never get up off the couch. (Go ahead and watch another episode of that true crime docu-series ;)

5 - parisian Décor

Everyone loves Paris, whether you admit it or not, there is just something about that city that draws people in. While travel is still a bit risky, most of us are itching to go somewhere. With traditional elements also being implemented in interiors, the combination just makes sense. Think eclectic, but sophisticated spaces with wall mouldings and curved furniture. Kind of like all of the above combined.

While trends do come and go, it is always nice to freshen up your space with something new and exciting. What do you think? Are you a fan of any of these trends? Will you be incorporating any of them in your own home?
